What are the symptoms of iodine deficiency
Here are the symptoms of an iodine deficiency
A third of the world is at risk of having an iodine deficiency. You may be vulnerable too if you’re pregnant, don’t use iodized salt, live in a country where there isn’t a lot of iodine present, and follow a vegan or vegetarian diet.
Here are some symptoms to look out for:
- Swelling around the neck area
- Visible goitres
- Unexpected and rapid weight gain
- Hair loss
- Weakness and fatigue
- Flaky, dry skin
- Difficulty swallowing
- Experiencing extreme coldness
- Trouble remembering and learning new things
- Irregular periods
If you have more than three of these symptoms at the same time, it’s time to consult your doctor and talk about supplementation. If you’re not keen on supplementation, consider adding more Iodine-enriched foods to your diet.
